Fragrance Duplication
How the Process Works
Step 1 — Ship Us a Sample
We’ll need at least 2 oz of the fragrance oil you want duplicated.
For best results, we recommend sending 4–6 oz whenever possible, as additional material gives the lab more to work with and can sometimes help speed up the evaluation process.
Step 2 — Tell Us About Your Application
Along with your sample, please include:
- Your name or business name
- The fragrance name
- What product you’re using it in:
- Candles
- Soap
- Body care
- Room sprays
- Other applications
If you have:
- Specific usage rate goals
- IFRA category requirements
- Performance expectations
…please include those details as well.
All Black Tie Barn fragrances are formulated with candles as the primary application, but knowing your intended use helps ensure the fragrance is developed appropriately from the beginning.
Step 3 — The Lab Begins Analysis
Once your sample arrives, the duplication process begins.
The lab carefully analyzes the fragrance profile and works to reconstruct the scent as accurately as possible while maintaining stability and performance.
Step 4 — Allow Time for Proper Development
Fragrance duplication is not an overnight process.
Please allow approximately 6–8 weeks from the time your sample is received. Quality duplication requires careful evaluation, testing, and refinement throughout multiple stages.
We believe doing it right matters more than rushing the process.
Step 5 — Test the Sample
Once the duplication is complete, we’ll send you a sample for testing in your own products.
This gives you the opportunity to evaluate:
- Scent accuracy
- Hot throw / cold throw
- Soap performance
- Stability
- Overall behavior in your application
At this stage, you are only responsible for the shipping cost of the returned sample.
Step 6 — Move Forward With Production
If everything checks out, you can move forward with a production order.
Minimum order quantities typically range between:
- 15 lbs – 25 lbs
- Depending on the fragrance complexity and formulation requirements
Final pricing is determined after the lab completes its full evaluation of the fragrance.
Step 7 — Documentation Included
Your order will include:
- SDS documentation
- IFRA documentation
No separate requests or chasing paperwork down later.
A Few Things Worth Knowing
No Upfront Duplication Fee
There is no fee to begin the duplication process.
One Revision Round Included
If the first version needs slight adjustments, one revision round is included.
The only potential additional charges would be:
- Shipping costs
- Multiple revision rounds
- The final fragrance purchase itself
Every Fragrance Is Different
Some fragrances can be duplicated very closely. Others may require slight interpretation depending on raw material availability, reformulation regulations, or application requirements.
Our goal is always to create the best possible version while maintaining excellent performance and safety standards.
